But there are many different smoothing brands and treatments available. Which one is best for you? Are you a good candidate for any of them? I have a confession to make. Even as the owner of salons that perform numerous Keratin Smoothing Treatments, I never believed these amazing treatments would benefit me!
Like every other woman who has fine or thin hair, I’ve always feared services that make my hair appear flatter. But this summer, as my frizz became uncontrollable, I too decided to take the plunge into the mystifying world of smoothing treatments. Natural Keratin Smoothing Treatment (NKST):
This 3-4 hour service produces long lasting results that continue to improve with future treatments. $425+
Who Benefits: Anyone with thick, wavy or curly hair that has a tendency to frizz.
What it Does: This treatment deposits keratin where there are gaps in the cortex of each strand. It then smoothes the cuticle with heat.
Results: This service reduces frizz, elongates the curl pattern, reduces blow dry time and minimizes fly always for up to five months. The Keratin Smoothing Treatment also increases shine, elasticity, manageability and protection from humidity.
Other Notes: Do not shampoo for 72 Hours. Avoid ponytails and placing your hair behind your ears, which could leave a crimp in your hair.
Express Blowout Keratin Smoothing Treatment:
This service takes about an hour and is the express version of NKST service. $150+
Who Benefits: Anyone with waves, curls or frizz that wants smoothing results in less time. This is the service that I had done. I personally have very fine hair and I feel like it is actually thicker now because the deposited Keratin improved the health of my hair.
What it Does: This treatment uses the same technology as the NKST.
Results: The Express Blowout offers the same results as the NKST but only last about 6 weeks.
Other Notes: Do not shampoo for 8 hours and also avoid ponytails and placing your hair behind your ears.
Brazilian Blowout Smoothing Treatment
This 2 hour service is $250+
Who Benefits: Any hair type looking for a smoother finish and less frizz
What it Does: The Brazilian Blowout treatment uses a liquid keratin formula that bonds to the surface. This creates a protective layer around each hair.
Results: This service will reduce frizz and blow dry time while increasing shine, elasticity and manageability. The Brazilian Blowout is also customizable to each client and your desired results. As such, it’s important to let your hairdresser know if you like to wear your hair straight or curly.
Other Notes: Unlike other Keratin Smoothing Treatments, the Brazilian Blowout formula is rinsed out of your hair before you leave the salon. This means that you will not have any restrictions whatsoever!
