Oribe’s Story
Oribe is a relative newcomer to the Houston beauty scene. As a Cuban born, American hair stylist… he moved to New York City early in life to star in movies. While in New York, Oribe met and began working with reknowned makeup artist Francois Nars. Soon afterwards, their collaboration led to his first editorial work for GQ.
Oribe performed editorial work for numerous fashion magazines over the next several years. In 1990, he took a huge leap and opened his uber glamorous salon at Elizabeth Arden in New York. He quickly built a celebrity following and became the hair sylist of choice for Manhattan models and socialites.
In 2008, he launched his own hair care line that focused on sexy, glamorous styling while keeping the hair healthy. To insure success, he partnered with beauty industry legends Daniel Kaner and Tev Finger. Daniel Kaner spent his early years leaning the business at Aveda. He then jumped at the chance to help Michael Gordon take his brand, Bumble and Bumble, to the next level. At Bumble and Bumble, Kaner met and worked for ten years with Finger. After a decade at Bumble, the duo looked for and found a new challenge bringing this line to market.
Launching a luxury brand from scratch is never easy. You have no product. You have no history. All you have is knowledge and a dream. Together Oribe, Kaner and Finger turned their dream into a reality. Instead of using known and stock product formulas, the trio developed everything. Having a fully operational, top tier hair salon at their disposal was a great benefit. Every product was developed and tested for performance. Not just in the salon, but on runways and in photo shoots.
