Ombre, like balayage, is a french word.  The english translation means shaded.  When used in a hair salon, it refers to transitional blending from one color to another. This color trend started with most styles transitioning from light to dark, but it has since expanded.  Now, it is common to see more dramatic color schemes that incorporate diagonal, reverse and face framing techniques.  Face framing helps draw attention to specific features like cheek bones or eyes.

This color service may also simulate hair volume by working the technique into a style’s natural waves.  Most people associate this color technique with high contrast schemes, say a deep chestnut fading to an icy blond.  But that doesn’t have to be the case.
